When it comes to art, I’m a perfectionist. Trust me, it’s not a good thing. So my dear artist friend Amanda challanged me (as she always does). She gave me 2 hours to do a likeness of a photograph - any photograph. And what it does is that it pushes you to look past your own imperfections and just… roll with it!
Naturally, I chose a picture I felt I could stare at for 2 hours straight, if you know what I mean. Hehe.
I enjoyed it, in a way. Although I still think it’s cheating when you simply sample colors haha! But since it’s for practice, I guess it’s okay. I would point out to you all the things that are wrong with this painting, but I’ve been taught never to do that, so, you figure it out yourselves! Cheers <3

So I haven't exactly been a very good blogger lately. This is a (I suspect) very bad attempt at kind of rounding up what's been going on in my life lately. Boring Beware!
So for the last couple of weeks we've been working with something called PhotoTherpy. It's been a hell of a journey where we've been allowed to work with the kind of things that never got their proper place in the family album. There's a lot more to it, but since I've done nothing else for the last month or so, I'll leave the expanding of knowledge of the subject up to you guys! <-- really interesting stuff. DO check it out.
This is my contribution. I like it, I do. But I also feel that I didn't put myself out there quite as much as I should have. There's nothing in-your-face about this. On the contrary, I'm actually kind of hiding behind it. But that's interesting in its own, so it's not a total loss :P
So! This is a really exciting month for all you out there with a interest in photography. Fotografi i Fokus is having their South Sweden Photography Biennial, where different institutions, galleries and photographers (and many more) present exhibitions, seminars and movies all round Skåne. This only happens once every other year, so it's actually quite thrilling! :D Check out the homepage. There's a map and everything.
Oh, and Mary Ellen Mark (bless her soul) is actually holding an exhibition here in Malmö. I can't tell you enough how amazing that is. She's one of our time's greatest photographers. I actually studied about her in history class. How crazy is that?
Mary Ellen Mark, Tiny.
PLEASE go see it. I have no doubt in my mind that it'll be beyond amazing.
Yesterday this article graced the front page of Sydsvenskan. It mentions the exhibition where Christel Brost (our teacher) - together with her students (that's me!), will be showing off our work. This is my first time participating in anything like this! And it feels sooo great!
We actually have actual pictures taken BY Jo Spence (founder of phototherapy) hanging there as well, which is amazing! My picture hanging in the same room as Jo Spence? What's up with that?! Spence died quite some time ago in cancer, but none the less her pictures are amazing. (<-- makes no sense)
This one - The Bride, is one of my favorites of hers.
Feel free to check us out at Form/Design on LillaTorg in Malmö. Open until April the 2nd!
This is what my room looks like right now.
Notice the big-ass Barbara Kruger picture on the wall. Maybe you remember the post I did some time ago about her works (Your Body Is A Battleground). I've been looking for her work EVERYWHERE. I shit you not. Two days ago I stumbled upon this in a second hand boutique. 85 Swedish kronors. Kaching! So now it has a new home where it will be properly worshiped!
